It’s a little known fact about me that I happen love graffiti. I always have, too. My brother was really into it when I was younger, so it’s always been a part of me. I have also been a major fan of all of Banksy’s work. I started following Banksy a few years ago, when this massive article was published in magazine that no longer exists. Traditionalists say that Banksy’s work isn’t graffiti, due to the use of stencils, but that is shyt (Shyt is used on purpose). Then again, I don’t do graffiti, so what do I know. I actually had an idea to start a movement in Dallas, called Trifecta. I would start by tagging, “Trifecta is Coming” all over the city. I thought it would have a few meanings, with most of them being dirty. Then, I would do a graffiti attack on the city, with clever sayings and pictures. I think places like Victory Park and Uptown could use a bit of graffiti. I realized shortly after that I am not artistic like that, and should just stick to my 9 - 5 job. I’m writing all of this with a reason, just wait for it.
The cool thing, in my opinion, about Banksy is that no one has ever seen the guy. Graffiti artist often try to hide their identity, but they always end up showing their face. Now, Banksy is by far one of the most well known artist around, but again, no one has seen him. (Check out the Wiki for some of his background) A few weeks ago, I read an article that Banksy had been found and his photo was published on the site. This is a pretty big deal, because few people have seen Banksy. The article is/was located here. This is all extremely amazing, if you are into this shit and even if you’re really not. I am, not only as a Banksy fan, but also as someone who frequently changes everything about their life and flees to another city or country. What? Here’s the thing: Banksy was caught for arguably the first time on the site I linked called Complex. Why is it arguable? Well, according to the site, “this picture was published in The Evening Standard back in 2004 and has been floating around Jamaican photographer Peter Dean Rickard’s site, The Afflicted Yard for just as long, he sold them the photo after all.” Now, suddenly, the photos are nowhere to be found. Just like that they’re gone. Word is from Complex that a cease and desist came from a law firm, but in the letter did not say whether or not they rep Banksy. A PR firm, Meena Khera, who doesn’t list Banksy as a client, bought these photos and now owns the copyright. However, and this should be the last however, Banksy’s manager says that the photos are not even of him and told this to The Evening Standard a while ago. So then, why would a major PR firm want to purchase them anyways? Speaking of the PR firm, I freaking love their website. Now, if you want to see what Banksy supposedly looks like, then go to this Complex article. To catch up on who Banksy is, check out this fascinating article printed by The New Yorker.
And just know that sometimes Rachel Bilson is just necessary.
