Toph Speaks

(Toph’s Note: She is 18 and everything I say is legal. Pappa don’t like jail time, you heard?)

I am sure you haven’t let Allison Stokke pass off your radar, have you? She’s been in the news a lot lately, and it’s mostly for her hotness. But, I will say this chick is a pole-vaulting what ever it is you call a special pole-vaulter. Her personal best is like 13ft, which is a pretty big deal. Of course, as I’ve said since high school, you could vault 200ft if you have a 200ft pole, right? I bet Derek Jeter could vault 200ft, but that’s a topic for another day. The reason you’ve been hearing about Stokke for the past few days is because the world has discovered that she will be attending Cal Berkeley in the Fall. What does this mean for the sports world? Well, one is that my friends and I are buying season tickets to Cal Bears Track. I wonder when those go on sale, kidding.

Here’s what no one is talking about, though. As a former track person, I never had someone this hot my team. Actually, that’s not true. We had Ashley and Sameria (which is probably not how her name is spelled), but that’s another different story. I wonder what ever happened to them? Let’s say, for instance, that Stokke is even remotely decent when she gets to college. Let’s say she can stand up to all this coverage that has been thrust on her, and she performs under the pressure. Suddenly, she’ll be getting so much press coverage. Even now, she’s getting written up on every sports blog around. Maybe it is in negative light, but name me another sports girl who’s getting this much attention? Suddenly, track and field starts getting back in the limelight. That would be amazing for the sport I miss so much. It doesn’t seem like track has anything to hold onto since Michael Johnson was smashing records. I mean, we saw what Anna K. did for women’s tennis, right? And I never though Anna K. was that hot. Let’s assume for a minute that Stokke can make a dent in the sport, and qualifies for the 2008 Olympics in China or 2012 Olympics in London. Do you not think that every guy around the nation won’t be tuning in? Let’s be honest, in the past I’ve watched swimming for Amanda Beard, and when I was younger for Summer Sanders. You better believe people will be watching for Allison Stokke. She’s already a state champ, and getting better from there.

The only thing she needs is an amazing nickname or tag line. I was thinking something like, “I’m Stoked for Stokke,” but that’s not good. It can’t be offensive, though, because no one wants to hear that. We could go with an old school basketball name like, The Truth, 9Toes, A-Train, or Sweet Justice. I kinda like Sweet Justice. I went to Christian for help. He came up “The Natural” and “Her Majesty”. So, which one do you like better? Allison “Sweet Justice” Stokke, Allison “9 Toes” Stokke, or Allison “The Natural” Stokke? I wish we were more creative.

So, I hope she finds a way to succeeds. That way I can tell La Diabla I’m watching for the love of Pole Vaulting. In the meantime, here are some pictures. You’ll need them if you’re not in the Bay Area. See you in 2008… or 12.
